Just for the record, when I finally did quit in my mid thirties, I did it by replacing my smoking habit with a different one.

I was sitting in front of the telly one day, throwing back some cold ones, snacking on something suitably unhealthy and of course puffing away like mad (deliberate choice of words there).

A promo for the Tour de France came on and I saw these incredibly fit blokes powering up the Col de something-or-other and there was my epiphany.

The next day I threw out my cigs, bought a road bike ( a cheap Apollo - the carbon fiber stuff came much later) and a pair of bike shorts and pretty soon I was a veritable two wheeled, human powered road warrior.

Actually I never got past B grade club level, and the biggest hill I ever climbed was Bulli pass but I did have a fantastic social time and even discovered some moral fibre I didn't know I had.

So get out there and sweat a bit you lot!

    There endedth the lesson. :)
