The biggest cuppla reasons why I went for the SMSF way were:
1. Forced to take an active role (which I enjoy)
2. Immediate response to market possible (not that nonsense with forms a snail mail)
3. Can mix and match as I wish
4. Lousy returns from my old super over the last few years.
5. Its possible to invest in compnaies about to go inot production that are not on the list traditional Super funds (i.e. potential to outperform is there)
I created the SMSF and put a nominal amount into it to see how I went and to demonstrate to the trustees that this was the way to go. So far it went very well so now we have the lot in the SMSF. Still 90 % in cash deposit though.
a) Btw when is it that the fed backing of financial instos' gets diminished ? I think the current fed backing is about $1 mill per account and from memory that gets pulled back to $250 k per account around now. THis will mean I have to finmd another insto giving around 6 %
b) Another question. Anyone know of a 6 % or close to that cash deposit offer ?
