With a 250K balance one of the more difficult aspects is where to put that meager amount so it will grow at a reasonable rate of return. I had more than this when I started and found it difficult to cover both growth and risk aspects of investing as the fund is not big enough to allow investment mistakes - so unless you are very good at researching or 'pick' the right investment sector you will struggle to do better than most industry funds.
Of course if you have no risk aversion you can pick your best speccie and put it on that? If you are young it may pay off over a lifetime but if your near retirement you won't recover from gross errors in judgement.
