True. (But, for 'once & for all', get THAT out of your head !!). - David Hills even has said so, himself. Naturally, any revenues as a result of all search completed on Looksmart.com of course, is always, most welcomed, by LOOK.
< YET...it is going to make money "because" of RSS and the Google ADS ?? .... Ross.....get off that xxxx. >
My answer is, ABSOLUTELY !! - smuggs ... You really do know very "little" on the 'explosion' currently taking place throughout the 'seach sector', in THIS under-utilised, (in terms of monitisation) area.
You need to understand & accept, that Furl.Net (alone) has, (by now), a few hundred thousand USERS, who ('daily') bookmark (Furl/SAVE) articles they come across, on the net. They also 'search' for 'other' articles, that have been 'saved', by other users of Furl. So, when someone 'saves' an article, (I have just saved this one, from off the main page of Furl, as an example. (Check the number who have either viewed, or, saved it).

http://www.hanselman.com/blog/ScottHanselmans2005UltimateDeveloperAndPowerUsersT oolList.aspx
(Note Google's ADS all over it ??? - If any are now 'clicked' on, where did the 'click source' come from???)
So, When you (now), recall this article from your saved 'bank' of articles, not only will you be HIT with ADS, you will then be advised a message, similar to this:
Furled By: 48 members - See who and what they said...
People who furled this, also furled:
Wink - [Homepage] - The Portable Freeware Collection
IT cheat sheets for all - Cool Programs : Combobulate.com
Social Bookmarking Tools (I): A General Review
See more... (smuggs ...... You 'must' try it !! - You may even "See more" !!)
Now, consider, or, think about, when you now 'chuck in' Spurl.Net (who recently announced) that all articles, 'saved' by THEIR 'own' members, WILL be now 'shared' with Looksmart's Furl, as will Furl's saved articles, in turn, then be 'shared' with Spurl's growing membership. (Spurl do have their own search engine, called, Zniff.com).
So, articles that are saved as 'shared' articles, allow all users of these services, to recall ANY of them, (through their 'own' 5 Gig "Free", 'savings' allowance), or, through search on any of a 'network' site, participant. The most popular articles (identified by the number of 'hits' on them) will then have ADS applied to those pages, relevent to the content of that article's, particular 'theme'. Yes, GOOG adwords, or, even (some contextual ADS, from them), will quickly help generate revenues, when those ADS are 'hit' on. An article saved on Furl, FindArticles, or, from 'off' of, one of Loooksmart's current, or, future Verticles, would (naturally) have an existing "Look Listings" AD applied, wherever applicable. Sometimes, as a 'top up' AD, supplied from another source. Contra 'top ups', (of ADS) can be the 'norm', should they be required, particularly IF the article (sourse) provider, have a need, for same.
I'd imagine ALL articles provided (from a particular chosen SE) would probably have special "TAGS" (attached to the selected SE) that are designed to help (enhance) a search by the many 'users' of any 'linked' (or, networked) search sites, to 'draw on' a result, that can satisfy their interest. "TAGS" such as, "articles"-"print"-"magazines"-"published"-"research"-"reading" combined with a "keyword" or, two from the article's content, may find a "Spurl" user, being provided results from Looksmart's FindArticles "wealth" of content. (Those "TAGS" mentioned above, seem appropriate for F/A's, I'm sure you would agree ?? - NO??)
To close this reply to you, smuggsdonga .... Can you imagine say, 50 sites sharing their 'visitors' with all those (other site's visitors) by forming a network, with all visitors saving articles madly, daily? And then the most popular articles, then get ADS 'plied' all over them ?? - Revenue 'sharing' ADS ??
Could you smuggs .... ever imagine a network of sites, growing to say, 100 or, even 200, or more?? - I'm not sure you could?
Now go think about it, you SOB!!
