Senegal's upstream is showing promise, though developers are arguing over drilling rights
Cairn Energy is confident its drilling campaign in Senegal's SNE oilfield will proceed as planned, despite wrangles within the consortium over a proposed stake sale by ConocoPhillips to Australia's Woodside Petroleum. Richard Heaton, Cairn's exploration director, says he expects appraisal and exploratory drilling to restart soon, following the signing of an agreement with the Senegalese government in May for a three-year drilling programme. "It will either be at the very tail end of this year or early into next year," he says, adding that details of the drilling schedule were being nailed down by the joint-venture group soon.
