Everything I read indicates that Israeli started in 48 with a bunch of traumatized damaged paranoids running it, hell bent on revenge (which they took out on the Palestinian Arabs). The single biggest problem is the lack of any ability among many (not all) Israelis to put themselves in others' shoes.
