Looks like Spain is having a problem with very cold conditions this month with snow covering the entire country, the worst experienced since 1971.
Whilst almond orchards aren't overly impacted by cold weather at this point of the growing cycle there could be cause for various problems for their 2021 crop.
Extreme cold could delay the blossom thus reducing potential early frost impact on the blossoms and nut set however this then gives less growing time before harvest meaning smaller almonds.
There also is the possibility of damage to the trees or branches from the cold and the snow respectively. The weight of the snow, if not cleared, could cause branches to break.
If the cold conditions continue the risk of adverse impacts to the Spanish almond crop increase.
