    Yes you are correct in that scheme of things, some are hoping that renewables will drive the water up into the holding dam.

    But then as one quote,

    Snowy 2.0 will add 2,000 megawatts of energy generation and provide 175 hours of storage for the National Electricity Market (NEM), enough to ensure the stability and reliability of the system during prolonged weather events, such as wind or solar ‘droughts’.

    So if there are prolonged solar and wind droughts and if the power is needed to drive the water back up where will it come from and at what cost ?
