I think you have that story wrong.

The ALP hired the mob out of California to build the quantum computer purely because they didn't think the local quantum physicists like Michele Simmons and the rest could do it because they haven't done it after billions of dollars from previous governments.

Last I heard, the local quantum physicists are pretty peeved that money went to an international company - they liked having a gravy train for a couple of decades.

No one asked me my opinion. If they had, I would have told them the entire Quantum Computing bunch are sellers of the oil of snake and not to waste the money.
