ABC radio said it will take 7 years to build Turnbull's Snowy Hydro project. I worked on construction of Loy Yang power stations the three stations took 20 continues years to construct. That did not take into account planning and permits, add another 5 years.
The Snowy Hydro has to be firstly designed every component has to be designed plans drawn up, down to the very last nut and bolt. Takes time the survey of sight all before the very first sod of soil is turned.
All large power stations in all stated were constructed with Government finance be it state or federal.
When the stations were privatised in Victoria no more large power stations were built that was over 20 years ago. The new private sector did not want the long lead time in building. Hazelwood was to be decommissioned about the year 2000 but was sold and had a reprieve.
The Station was built in the 1950's it is 60 years old.
Modern renewable power plants can be built where the power is used in 100 days plus pre planning . Many can be built in different places at once.
