At best it was going to remove some of the volitility and has not even done that
In the end a short selling is only going to be successful if there is something wrong with the stock or the market.
If there is nothing wrong with the stock or the market and they are fundamentally well priced, a short selling is only going to be successful for a very short period of time, if at all as buyers will see value in what is being shorted.
