If we take the FAA as an example, the Obama administration included a biographical questionnaire as part of the hiring process in an attempt to make the FAA a more diverse & inclusive workplace. These included questions about socioeconomic background etc.
Why is socioeconomic background relevant to the ability to discharge your duties in the FAA? It's not. The questionnaire, as confirmed by the Obama administration, was an attempt to make the organization more diverse, not hire the most qualified candidate.
The very fact the question about socioeconomic background was asked means certain answers received higher weighting in the hiring process. When certain answers receive a higher weighting, and the aim is to increase diversity rather than hire the most qualified candidate, IMO that's wrong.
Bold statements considering the following;
There's currently a class action lawsuit underway, Brigida v. Buttigieg, which is challenging recent hiring practices of the FAA.
