Off the track there . The country was the best farm producer in Africa and employed thousands,but when Mugabe started hallucinating (as most tyrants do)he had visions of an African country free of colonials and their historic standards and connections with the old country. So he kicked out/killed white farmers and gave the farmland to the locals but that was no good as they did not want to farm the land so the end result was that economic activity ground to a halt resulting in the basket case we now see. Because tyrants don't really want anyone but themselves to run their country,they usually don't have elections but in this case they did and in a fashion that GWB would be proud of Mugabe managed to get back in ,but since most of the outside world could see that the election results were rigged they imposed sanctions which is where we are today. The only hope for Zimbabwe is for the opposition to get control and get the farming back on track (but it will never be what it once was).
