Old coal plants become less reliable and require more maintenance . Just like a car .
Thus they get more expensive to run , regardless of what renewables are doing . Renewable subsidies are being wound now to the point where new projects are factoring them at zero .
E.g. New renewable contracts are being written at around $50 in Australia per mwh .

So , we have a choice . Over the next 10 to 20 years as the existing cfps retire we can build new ones for very short terms or we can start developing and ramping up renewables that will last for decades .
It's a no brainer if you ask me .
