Yes, agreed. We are not there yet. And the developing countries are being allowed to get their people ahead in the shorter term with a reasonable coal and gas build. For now at least. India though seems to be backing off coal more relative to earlier plans. China is showing signs of having near peaked emissions. But that would be earlier than expected, so we'll see.
The next stage, as you say, is hydro, pumped storage, batteries, more wind and solar, EVs. But there will still be more coal and gas. It's a thirty year + project from here. Lots to do.
