Coast shivers through coldest morning of the year

THE Sunshine Coast has experienced its coldest morning of the year, temperatures at Maroochydore plummeting well below the July average to reach just 3.1 degrees at 6.43am.
The gauge had hit 3.9 degrees by 6.30am when the apparent temperature - how cold it actually felt - dropped to just 0.9 degrees.
Apparent temperature is reached by a complicated equation that factors in the combined effects of temperature, wind and moisture.
Further north Gympie was down to just 1.5 degrees on the gauge at 7am.
Bureau of Meteorology forecaster James Thompson said colder than expected temperatures - six degrees below the July average of 9.5 degrees for Maroochydore - had been driven by dryer than expected air with light winds...
