Israel has reportedly received specific information that Australia is a major target for terrorists.
A senior Israeli security source warned Tel Aviv has specific information that Australia is a target for terrorists linked to Osama bin Laden's al-Qaeda network in coming weeks and months, The Australian reported.
The terrorists find Australia easy to enter and move money in, and the source told the newspaper there were dozens of terrorist cells in the region which could be activated at any time to carry out attacks.
Poor security, porous borders, and weak government and law and order structures common throughout the region have made Asia and Australia easy for terrorists to penetrate, the newspaper said.
The source said the removal of Iraq's President Saddam Hussein would inflame Islamic extremists and lead to attempts to exact revenge on the west.
