To me there are three (gold producing) countries that fit best in the 'disastrous recent history' category - Mali, Burkina Faso and Tanzania. I don't think he'd describe Tanzania as a disaster, more just poorly negotiated mining code and combative former government.

So that leaves Mali and Burkina Faso.

Spanning the cycle probably not a big issue as most of the projects on offer have 10+ years of reserve.

you also forgot Guinea which was coup ridden last couple of years and incidentally has Bankan - prob the best/cheapest unpermitted deposit on the asx at $300m mc .....
