Epicentre of the quake is in the paddocks near a locality called Charing Cross, shown on Google Map
Map shows that the it originated west of the city, but the way seismic waves travel, the city would have felt the tremors straight after.

We haven't had such an event in Oz, apart frm that incident in 5.6 Newcastle quake in 1989.
