Yes the lack of casualities as which is usually seen in overseas disasters would come down in my opinion to strict building practices and cities that arnt so densely populated.
As big as the climate change argument may be, i sometimes wonder is it earth trying to kill off the humans which could be compared to a type of cancer for the planet. I truly do believe in the next century couples should be restricted to 1 child to cut the worlds population in half. With everything becoming computerized and performed by machines, there will not be no where near as many jobs as what there was in the past. anyway, glad that you are safe :)
