    That Labor increasing immigration was for the purpose of maintaining their Union buddy's.

    No the unions oppose bringing in some migrant workers in some areas of work because they rather business train locals and unions don't want competition from lower paid workers on temp visas.

    As an aside the Coalition increased work rights for student visa holders as part of the pandemic response. During 2013 students could work 80 hours a fortnight rather than 40 hours. Those relaxed rules wre in response to worker shortages as reported by business.

    The work rights in a tight jobs market did the required job and attracted longer term temporary visa holders to Australia.
    It will take those recent arrivals a while to leave after their visas expire and the numbers should abate.
    If people would like to see less arrivals and more departures then a high unemployment rate would achieve that.

    Additionally with housing starts there are plenty of building approvals in the pipeline but insufficient commencements due to factors associated with costs and higher interest rates. Business needs to make a profit.
