Apple is a bit late to the party they should have been investing in cobalt mines years ago to protect their supply chain. However like Tesla they thought erroneously that there would always be a cheap supply of cobalt and that somehow without funding mining explorers someone would continue to ramp up cobalt. Well it’s crunch time because it will take the current gen of explorers at least 4 years to construct mines and ramp up production. Until then cobalt prices will continue to rise and the DRC will continue to raise taxes on cobalt and copper miners. Cobalt hasn’t even started to run yet if history is to be repeated we will be back to pre-GFC levels of 140k per tonne this year.
