Yep, I've been there too, on a mining company.
Not sure people quite get it - almost certainly their investment is completely lost, any (little) money left will go to creditors, there's no "thank you" letter coming from the company, and no one is going to represent their interests or care what happens to them.
Good learning experience, though embittering at the time.
