Ask Australia’s Assistant Treasurer and wanna be regulator, Stephen Jones. I think Australian financial services sector is going to go from a deregulated free for all to a much heavily regulated sector, banks included.
The days of the deep south and anything goes mentality are over IMHO from what the new Government are saying, BNPL, cards, banking, payments, insurance, it all looks likely to have a lot more consumer protections and a lot more regulation, heavier fines, and penalties, and a lot more regulatory aggression.
I think AUstralian financial services is in for a lot of heavier regulation
