The reason that the $/lb of in ground uranium in Australia is so low compared to Canada and the USA is due to the perceived political risk in Australia. I read a seppo book recently that highlighted this fact. Now that the Libs have recently taken many steps towards uranium, etc. and Labour has changed its no new mines policy, the in-ground uranium valuation rates will appreciate markedly. In Canada and the USA the in-ground value of Uranium is approximately US$33 per lb. In Australia it ranges from AUD$4 to AUD$7 per lb.
It won't happen overnight, but the revaluation of Australian uranium resources will happen. Expect further policy changes from Labour over the next 6 months as the Libs turn up the heat on climate change and nuclear power.
