if we cant trust the media / RE sprukers? where do we get real data?

here is a interesting one, a chart showing the average mortgage size for each month in Australia.

The news said Janurary was a strong month, booming prices and lots of property being snapped up.. but mortgage data for Australia shows a drop in the size and volume of mortgages for Jan 2010.

who do we belive????
