Here's my take:
It will be an intriguing (sic) battle.
Xstrata look the likely winner imo. They have offered a hefty premium - on already hefty prices - and have the trump card. They have the firmed up the boards own shareholdings. That means, at $23, they have 17% or so of the company. Becuase of that, someone is going to need to come way over the top. They are going to need to bid at $27+ to stand any chance at all.
And if there was a probability of that, why would the board of directions have sold a few hundred million dollars of shares. Wouldn't they want to share in that too.
So for me, unless the Russians play Russian roulette once again, Xstrata win!
