IE is security holed to the max updates are not that often and microsoft lets flaws slip - they have become more proactive but Firefox/mozilla and opera now have some momentum and they are more creative / flexible and quick responding due to the open source nature of the software

That said any security bugs are also quick to be fixed by the big grouping of open source programmers.

As long as funding is there and it expands mozilla and firefox etc will keep putting pressure on microsoft.
