Reports toxic foam released into stormwater drain on Gold Coast
A GOLD Coast business is under investigation following reports it deliberately released toxic chemicals into a stormwater drain on Friday.
Water samples are currently being analysed by the Environment Department from a site at Stapylton after reports received by the Pollution Hotline indicated a discharge of firefighting foam to a stormwater drain.
It is understood the business refurbishes fire extinguishers and it’s alleged the waste water from this process was being flushed to a pit that drained to stormwater.
The firefighting foam is likely to contain hazardous PFAS chemicals.
The Department of Agriculture and Fisheries have advised fishermen in the area to consider fishing elsewhere “for the time being”.
