Agree. As one who has never used the social welfare system and should never hopefully, I feel free to say I'm a firm supporter of our system. Sure it has problems of administration and abuse but overall it is a social responsibility I'm happy to fund. I have a close connect with the mighty USA and I find it's system or lack of to be a very sad situation.
In USA they love winners and when someone falls on hard times they are cut adrift and have little hope of recovery. Little wonder they have a huge penal system. I hope we don't drift towards their model. Here, we could do more to create incentives to get people off benefits through better training schemes and tax breaks. So not perfect but better than others.
