Sodium is well short of the electron holding potential of lithium. This means less energy dense batteries (far less range in a car with the same size battery). They are only appearing because of the very high cost of Li (so in some ways I hope the stay around). And in the unlikely event of a large price drop in lithium raw materials there will be a bit of a buffer as Sodium batteries are switched back to lithium in those short range budget EVs.
