Sodium batteries are the next big thing in batteries plus the EV market desperately needs another battery technology to ease the pressure on price of lithium.
It might not be very suited for a car at the moment, but there are plenty of applications where size and weight does not matter .
There will come a time with advances in chemistry that sodium batteries will match todays lithium power density but lithium power density will also increase during that time, likely always giving lithium an advantage over sodium for applications like mobile devices like phone/laptops/ev
It might be 5 years before it makes waves but sodium batteries will make waves in applications like grid batteries
In the medium term it is not Lithium battery market it will influence but the likes of vanadium batteries will be threatened.
How will sodium batteries influence the lithium battery market.... help stabilise prices around $4k to $8k dmt sc6.
Also note in the same volume between lithium battery cell vs sodium battery cell, weight difference is likely 20 to 30% different not 3 times.
In a 1kg battery cell the wight of the lithium is 20% the other 80% is the battery wall aluminium, graphite/silicone, electrolytes or metals like iron/nickel/cobalt
