Softbank, on the other hand, has made a push in recent years into robots people are actually buying. The company purchased a controlling share in the French robotics firm Aldebaran in 2015, which produces the Pepper robot that was originally designed for SoftBank to use as a greeter in its retail stores.

3.3 Spikenet Vision
Vision is one of the most important capabilities in human-robot interaction. A strong
vision capability will allow the robot to see and orient towards objects, to walk to
them, grasp them and bring them to the user. It will allow the user to introduce new
objects, new faces, new scenes to the robot. We have successfully used the SNV
Spikenet Vision system (http://www.spikenet-technology.com/).

Additional components integrated to the architecture include Spikenet for advanced vision processing.

What vision software is used in Softbanks Pepper Robot? Is this Spikenet?
High Definition vision: Pepper is equipped with two high-resolution cameras as well as a 3D camera enabling him to effectively understand his environment. The images are processed by shape recognition software capable of identifying faces and objects.
