Broad spaced, first pass aircore drilling (1km x 200m)
in late 2002 over the peak (31 ppb) of the WMC
soil anomaly returned several encouraging results
including 1m @ 2.15g/t and 7m @ 2.04g/t. Due to
budget constraints, only limited aircore drilling was
carried out in 2003–2004. However, results from this
work were considered encouraging enough to justify
drilling five diamond holes in late 2004. The best
result from this diamond program was 13m @ 1.7g/t.
Follow-up diamond drilling in mid-2005 focussed on
targeting areas of significant aircore results. Of the
five holes drilled in this program, three intersected
significant mineralisation with standout results
of 13m @ 1.32g/t (10m @ 4.1g/t), 19m @ 4.7g/t
(including 16m @ 5.45g/t) and 8m @ 2.75 g/t. These
were the first holes which indicated that significant
higher-grade mineralisation is present at Tropicana
and led to a ramp up in the drilling with an RC rig
mobilising to site in October 2005. By the end of
2005 significant mineralisation had been identified in
broad-spaced RC and diamond drilling over a strike
length of 1km.
