Goody! I have found an article with the first major Sunspot Observation for a previous
Solar Cycle back in the Feb 1946.
So the 74.4 years is still in the timeframe for an upcoming observation in 2020
Obviously Solar conditions may not be the same but we go with the direct hit first.
"These are the largest spots since 1940," said Mr. Spigl, "and the first
great sunspots since the minimum in 1944.
It will be recalled that brilliant auroral displays throughout the
world were associated with the maximum in March. 1940.
