I doubt whether most people would install solar panels if it weren't for the 50% subsidy by the Government. Rather than buy solar panels there are better ways to save and make money.

Most solar panels on houses are subsidized by the Government, usually 50% is subsidized. I almost invested in solar panels too, as the Government rebate made them cheap.
Thankfully, I decided to spend the same money on buying another 100,000 Grange shares, that $8000 investment is now worth $170,000, and received $42,000 in dividends and franking credits during the 6 year period.
How much would the solar panels save me?
The solar panels would've been made in China so a good part of the money would end up in China. The investment in an Australian mining company was far more rewarding.
Two years ago Grange paid 10c dividends twice. ie $20,000 plus franking credits. Most likely I got $42,000 in dividends over the years.
I eventually sold them at $1.67/share.
