    Im looking up at the overcast sky right now and there is no sun

    FYI, depends where you live but where I live on most cloudy days my solar panels still generate sufficient electricity.
    There is the rare cloudy day where there are very black clouds accompanied by torrential rain that reduces solar panel output to a very low state but that doesn't happen very often here.
    My setup has some panels facing East for morning sun, more facing North generating for most of the day and another group facing West to pick up the late afternoon suns rays.
    What happens on a day with sustained high cloud is the clouds act as a diffuser resulting in all panels generating electricity at the same rate for most of the day. So while the daily output is attenuated compared to a clear day it just means I export less to the neighbours who don't have panels.
