Not sure how you classified Suntech as expensive, as they are one of the market leaders in cost, output and effi.

Also Sunpower has the highest effi commerical crystaline cells.

I belive Silex will only have an impact on the Australian Market.
However worldwide they will have little to none unless they are able to achive 20%+ cell effi.

Here is a link of the top 10 cell and solar module output and capcity. As you can see BP Solar doesnt even make the cut.
BP Solar solar old Sydney plant was only 25% of its world wide capacity for cells and only around 5% for modules.
