The data collected on a daily basis on weather and climate, would probably 1,000 times the output for the whole year when looking back in time. With less data its hard to prove up any theories, old papers on weather and climate before the 1980's aren't worth a pinch of salt, unless there has been follow up studies. Pretty hard to argue anything other than what it is. Pressure anomalies, hurricane correlations, what else do you need. Maybe influences, but is it the overriding factor, I think not?
