Using a percentage of my portfolio to trade is insurance to stop me me from using the rest of my portfolio to trade - the rest does not get touched by the allure caused by trading and the mistake many people make of locking in profits too early.
I am not as disciplined as Buffet. So many people think they can invest like Buffet (even my username is a joke, I clearly do not have his flair).
So I always make sure I retain a core long term position and play with the rest of my portfolio to give me the kicks.
