Brazilian media conglomerate Grupo Globo plans to launch next year a new video streaming platform that will include contents of its free-to-air channel and Globosat pay TV channels, as well as third-party productions, according to local media Teletime.
The report said the service would be launched during the second half of 2018. It will represent an evolution of Globo Play platform and will offer several business models. There will be free content (from Globo TV free-to-air channel), a monthly subscription for catch-up content, add-on packages with sports and third parties movies and series.
The company could include content aimed at attracting socioeconomic classes with lower purchasing power. This is considered a differential value when compared to contents of international platforms such as Amazon or Netflix.
According to Teletime, Globo sent an internal communication reporting about the creation of a new unit that will be in charge of the project, led by João Mesquita, current CEO of Telecine channels.
