I don't know about that - I don't know why other ppl shop there but I really like myer for clothes (and so does my wife) and this is the only reason we would go there. I buy all my work suits, shirts ties etc there and I'm sure they make a decent margin off me. I wouldn't ever buy clothes online because you just don't know if it will fit or not. So I think myer is in the right retail space - high quality stuff but not at David jones prices (they carry a number of the same big brands and myer is always at least a bit cheaper).
