Andy,
1) Hope you do not have kids that might one day be looking for a job in aviation, or perhaps you are planning to move to KL or SIN??
2) Have you looked at the Jetstar Asia and Jetstar Pacific business's???? Still not a crakka returned to QAN, JUST A RED SEA OF DEBT and lousy product!
3) How do you think QAN will be able to achieve anything different with a new start up based in KL or SIN??? What will change with their new business to suddnely make a profitable NBV???
IMO, QAN would be better off focusing on running QAN as a three airline company much like the old days when it was able to make $1Billion + profits (with a local workforce). i.e. Long Haul, Short Haul and Reginal. A focus on getting each of these divisions back to what they once were would reap huge benefits in terms of winning back customers. Without customers, then QAN is nothing.
For the record, the reason Long Haul is losing money is because it's product has been cheapened to a point where people have had enough (remember the hand carved beef, caviar and lobster in first class??), now a plate of Neil Perry "INSPIRED" slop is dished out (rice, bok choy and 3 mouthfuls of chix in a sloppy suace. In QAN premium cabins, if you are lucky, YOU MIGHT get a choice of meal(and that is after paying $10,000+ for a ticket). Put simply, unacceptable! Take one look at the opposition, the reason they are picking up market share and making profits is because they simply do not allow this sort of thing to occur on their flights. They appreciate/respect their customers and they actually provide load scales on their flights that allow cabin crew to offer EVERY premium passenger a choice of meal. Yes it might cost them a little more in catering costs, but their premium customers keep coming back because they have been well looked after. Something our well paid management seem to fail to understand.
