I find it quite amusing, when people on here who generally invest to make profit, have such an attitude to private landlords.
If you borrow money to buy shares, you get tax relief, if you sell them after one year, you obtain a 50% CGT discount. Oh dear, perhaps these greedy investors should stop investing in shares ahem. Sarcasm intended.

You make it more of an incentive for investors to build properties or less of an incentive for them to buy existing properties

As it is now there is little evidence to show negative gearing at a cost of 16 bill pa to taxpayers is leading to anymore rentals

If the govt took that 16 bill that is around 20,000 additional houses a year they could build or roughly 70,000 people
