    Hi rona,
The answer is that of course there will be no land available in the city of Sydney.
I guess it is rather like all the people who work in London, wishing to live in Chelsea or Earls Court.
So for decades, people commute from very outlying areas 100-150kms away, mostly by train, at great expense into the city every day. I used to have a 1 1/2 hour journey at least both ways to work, it is horrid.

so, you have to live like that, which is a very expensive and exhausting life, or you choose to live and work in the outlying suburbs, or up sticks and move to a very cheap area like Scotland eg. People do make a living in these places, some start their own businesses and never look back.

There is nothing dreadful about buying an old 3 x 1 70's home. It is an opportunity to improve it, slowly and surely. The expectations of a first home being a 4 x 2 with all the bells and whistles is unrealistic and unnecessary.

It is a challenge and can also be great fun. Building up your equity by doing most of the work yourself. is something to be proud of.
