when i was old enough, about 8 or 9 i'm guessing, i used to get 2 shillings a week to mow the lawns, do the edges, sweep, and it was a huge corner block, it now has two houses on it. when i left school at 16 i was still on 2 bob a week as there was obviously no inflation back then hahahaha. my father loaned me 24 pounds 19 shillings and sixpence for a bike when i was 15 or 16.
different times, there just wasn't the money around nor the pressure to have the best of anything as a young adult. if i was a young person today i'd probably want it all too, they're being marketed to within an inch of their lives. there's no difference in the work ethic, just the spending habits.
