Sadly, political survival always trumps rational decision making, BB. A bit of a catch 22 though when it comes to immigration. Easily remedied by being targeted, provided their qualifications are in line with ours - and limited to the availability of infrastructure. On the flipside, one of my young friends is a qualified builder. He can't afford to buy a home here in Oz and our high rents make it impossible to save, so he's moving to rural Canada. I'll look forward to his firsthand comparison of the RE scene there.
All that said, whatever our government do or don't do, it will still take years to remedy the current housing deficit.

I’m not so sure, cut immigration, tax vacant properties or some levy, make it so Airbnb properties go back on market are just some quick fixes and we should be back to where we’re basically pre pandemic as we had no immigration for a number of years
