    Yes the absolute numbers of online are very small still , but growing rapidly. But that rapid growth is due to 3 things imo
    1 As you allude to the strength of the AUD
    2 The gradual increase in online awareness of the average consumer
    3 relative manufacturer pricing

    The last point is imho a key driver of online sales growth. The fact that internationally australia is seen as a high margin market. Put simply, the suppliers dont discount into australia as aggressively as they do into struggling economies. Why? Because we keep buying at higher prices. "what the market will bear" is the philosophy; A higher AUD amplifies this as well, because margins can be expanded at the same price point.

    1 and 3 are cyclical and will change

    No 2 Wont be going be going away, rather will get worse;

    IMHO though, at least for big ticket items, most people still want the experience of shopping and touch feel hear see . They want to see /hear the differences. Its part of life. Its to many, fun. Group buying and other discount strategies take a lot of that fun away, and in the end take away the impulse out of purchasing, something to many , that is all part of the enjoyment.
