Winkinatcha, thats an excellent explanation. I'm not a shorter but that provides an excellent argument why the coin shouldnt be one-sided.

Why do I say this? Because for several years now I refused like many other people to go to auctions and pay increasingly crazy prices for real estate. I've been saying to myself for about 4-5 years the housing bubble will burst, and every year I was disappointed until now. Now the chickens are coming home to roost for those people who thought they could just outbid everyone else no matter what, and there were no consequences.

Well as a consequence I have a nice but modestly sized apratment that I paid a reasonable price for about 5 years ago and its paid off - no debt. Now I am in a great position and can choose to upgrade if I want with very manageable debt, and virtually have my choice of some very nice pickings.

I think this reinforces your argument of naked longing very well, and its no different in the stock market.
