    Chrysalis,

In reality Ukrainians particularly want Ukraine to join the EU right now but the free trade agreement would have been symbolic and would have integrated some crucial norms into the foundation of the country's existence.

    Certainly moreso than Russia.

Mr Y was elected on a platform of forging closer ties with the EU until he suddenly changed his mind last November and joined hands with Mr P over in Moscow.

The protests are about Ukraine being Ukraine, being a free Ukraine that recognizes civil rights, freedom of expression and so on and not a country being strangled by corruption and oppression by an "elite" few.

The EU would never let Ukraine in anyway at least not in my lifetime.

    EB
